Commission Proposal for
Steve & Karla Smith
Hi Steve and Karla! I had such a wonderful time visiting with you both and getting to know your beautiful home. Thank you so much for your hospitality and for considering me for this painting of your beloved property!
Find below a proposal for options for your commission based upon what we discussed:
Product
Your commission will be a landscape-oriented oil painting of your home, painted on 1-2” deep canvas intended for framing in a minimal canvas floater frame (such as you have for the floral piece in your kitchen). The minimum size we discussed for a wall by your side door was 11×14. The next size options include 12×16 and 16×20.
Subject
After walking around your property and taking various photos, I’ve settled upon three different viewpoints as possibilities for your commission. However, if you want something different than what’s below, let me know!
Sprawling Front View
An image of the front of your home, well-established in the surrounding environment
Sprawling Back View
An image of the back of your home, well-established in the surrounding environment
Intimate Side View
If you wanted something a little different, I could do a close-up painting of this cozier “setting” of your home
Given that I visited on a rather cloudy day, I may come back for original photos or coordinate with you for photos of the house in sunnier conditions to better establish lighting for a more dynamic painting.
I will provide sketches based on photos taken of different compositions and inclusions of surrounding greenery just so you have options for your painting, regardless of which viewpoint you choose!
Payment
By utilizing a rounded cost by linear inch (W+H * X), I keep my pricing transparent and standardized. Prices for the mentioned sizes are:
11×14: $375 (11+14=25 linear inches, x 15/linear inch)
12×16: $400 (12+16=28 linear inches, x 14/linear inch, rounded)
16×20: $500 (16+20=25 linear inches, x 14/linear inch, rounded)
A 50% deposit is due upfront before work begins, while the other 50% is due before or upon receipt of the painting. You can pay via my website’s payment link at the bottom of this proposal, or at my Venmo (@jocoyle, 3638).
Timeline
An estimated start date of May 4th, 2026, with an estimate of three months for completion to allot for other work and circumstances such as illness, vacations, communication delays, etc. I will check in 2-3 times before the delivery with primary sketches before painting begins and painting progress snapshots to give you an idea of composition and the direction of the piece as well as get your feedback.
Delivery
Since you are local, I can either deliver the piece or we can arrange a time for you to pick it up. The painting will be unframed, but I am happy to offer framing suggestions and frame as needed for an extra fee. The painting will come with a certificate of authenticity.
